Green onion

 


        Green onion is a Chinese traditional herb about 50cm long with a smelly odour and fibrous root. It is also known as spring and scallion onion. Basically, it is in a premature state when harvested. It has less acute flavour than onion so add to dishes for the appetizing purpose (to serve as a garnish for various dishes).  The leafy and white bulbs both parts are both edible. It is not just an onion but also rich in nutrients.


Health benefits of green onion:

Here are some benefits of green onion that are discussed below:

1. Cancer prevention:

    Green onion contains Sulphur that helps to maintain the balance of the overall health of the body. It also has flavonoid and alkyl sulphide (colon cancer), which prevents cancer by fighting against the enzyme that damages cellular tissues and DNA, a major source of cancer cell production.

2. Boost immunity:

    As it is rich in Vitamin A which helps to boost the immunity of the body against diseases and infections. 1 cup of scallion onion contains about 2840 IU of vitamins that cover up to about 95% daily needs of men.

3. Maintain eyesight:

    It contains vitamin A ( beta-carotene), and lutein that helps in the proper functioning of eyesight (keep eyes strong and healthy). It prevents age-related muscular issues (loss of vision) of the eyes.

4. Control level of blood sugar:

    This property serves as a therapeutic effect for diabetic patients. Green onion contains a compound known as allyl propyl disulphide, which helps in reducing the sugar level of blood and boosts the resistance power of glucose. It increases insulin levels that carry sugar from the bloodstream to cells of the body.

 5. Support digestion:
